Eating Ultra Processed Foods May Harm Your Health

Whilst headlines such as this make my eyes roll so loud you could hear it from down the srteet, it is data from studies that make for listening ears within the medical community, which is good news. WIthin the world of nutrition we know that a diet high in ultra processed foods and low in fresh and homecooked foods is detrimental to health but we'll take affirming data as a tool for promoting the need for change.
This research states that consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), such as sugar-sweetened beverages, potato chips and packaged cookies, may be associated with adverse health outcomes. Characteristics of UPFs are ready made foods containing high amounts of sugar and/or salt and other non-nutrative ingredients creating foods that are low in nutrition and high in calries. A study finds each additional 100 grams/day consumption of ultra-processed foods increased risk of hypertension, cardiovascular events, cancer and more.
